A fourth-century prophet in the Americas who abridged the historical and religious records of his people onto metal plates. His record was translated by Joseph Smith and first published in the United States during the early 1800s as the Book of Mormon.
While the term “Mormon Church” has long been publicly applied to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as a nickname, it is not an authorized title, and the Church discourages its use.
