Plans to construct the Calgary Alberta Temple were announced October 4, 2008. Church leaders broke ground May 15, 2010, and Thomas S. Monson, president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 2008 to 2018, dedicated the temple on Sunday, October 28, 2012. The temple serves Latter-day Saints in Calgary and the surrounding communities from Banff in the west to Drumheller in the east.
The exterior of the three-story, 3,066-square-metre temple features grey granite from China.
